The Moon:

This festival traditionally celebrates the conclusion of the bountiful harvest season on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month when the moon appears to be the fullest and the brightest.

Moon Cakes:

Moon cakes are exchanged and the importance of family unity is reaffirmed.  This is the reason why the Autumn Moon Festival is the second most celebrated and important event in the Chinese culture, just next to the Chinese New Year.
